The University of Port Harcourt’s Research Committee convened its first meeting under the leadership of the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research & Development, Professor Angela I. Frank-Briggs, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
In a dynamic and forward-thinking session, Professor Frank-Briggs outlined a strategic roadmap for enhancing the University’s research output, innovation capacity, and global visibility. She stressed the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, commercialization of research, and impact-driven outputs aligned with national and global development goals.
The committee deliberated on:
- Finalizing corrections to previously approved TETFund research applications.
- Introducing standardized templates for monitoring research milestones, conference reports, and budget submissions.
- Strategies for commercializing research outputs and showcasing them during Innovation Week 2026.
- Plans to revamp a robust Technology Transfer Office and update research infrastructure.
“This committee has a critical role to play in shaping the research future of our university. Our efforts must move beyond publications to real-world impact,” Professor Frank-Briggs emphasized.
