The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) yesterday officially commissioned the Renewed Hope Campus Transport Scheme, an initiative providing an environmentally friendly transportation system for the student body.
The commissioning ceremony was successfully executed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The event was witnessed by members of the University Management, Staff, and enthusiastic representatives of the student community.
The University Management extends its profound gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely and impactful intervention.
“We are deeply appreciative of the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” stated by the Vice-Chancellor of the University. “This scheme, delivered under the Renewed Hope agenda, directly enhances student welfare and promotes sustainable practices within our institution.”
Further appreciation was extended to the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny S. T. Echo, and his team for their swift and efficient execution.
“TETFund’s immediate implementation of this scheme is highly commendable. Their responsiveness has ensured that the President’s vision translates rapidly into tangible benefits for the students of the University of Port Harcourt,” the statement continued.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, reiterated the University’s commitment to maximizing the benefits of the scheme. “This environmentally friendly fleet significantly addresses the transportation logistics on our large campus, improving safety, mobility, and the overall quality of life for our students. We thank the President and TETFund for this pivotal support.”
