This year John Maddox Prize 2022 has been awarded to Dr. Eucharia Oluchi Nwaichi of the University of Port Harcourt from a field of over 50 International nominations.

The John Maddox Prize recognizes the works of individuals who show courage and integrity to promote science and evidence, advancing the public discussion around difficult topics despite challenges or hostility. The prize is a joint initiative of the organization Sense about Science and the leading International Scholarly Journal Nature. The judges were greatly impressed with Eucharia’s efforts in researching polluted sites in the Niger Delta and in engaging communities and companies in gathering evidence and trialling remediation.
